Last few days was really crazy, almost all the committees have to work their ass off. On friday, we had some problems with the sports unit and took a while to settle it. Once it's done we had to transfer 200 pieces of tatami (mats) from STAD , all the way to MPH by using just one trolley. Man , to think that we have to transfer back from MPH to STAD is really..... i wouldn't wanna think bout it just yet. That friday was really tiring. Having need to take the tables and stuffz from FMD, then went to perform demo for CF and then straight carry the stuffz from STAD to MPH , then had to clear MPH hall as well. By the time we finish, it's already midnite.
One day before the tournament... on saturday nite, we cleaned the hall, as during the day there was an event. Then we setup the tatami, which looks great of cuz.... it's new. Some of them say that the tatami cost is RM 40 K !!!! for the whole set. There were a lot of things to carry , and some last minute preparation. I wanted to finish everything as early as possible cuz the following day half of our committee will be taking part as well. But we still dragged on till midnite..
The tournament day...It was a tiring day, mentally i think... after all the preparation. Slept at 1am dat nite and woke up 6.40am, took a bath pack sum stuffz and reached MPH at 7.15am. Manage to touch up everything in MPH in time and when all the participants arrived, there were about 200 people in MPH. There were about 130 participants which is a really good response for a tournament. We had to open two tatamis else it would have not finished in time. The tournament started off with the Individual Kata for Female and Male. Then they have the female below 50kg. Right after that was my category , the 55kg kumite male. It's really one heck of a category, with the absolute most people in the category, 40 over people, that's quite insane. I can tell you that even the national level tournament doesn't have this much people in one category. There was so many people that it had to be dividied into 4 groups A , B, C and D. I was in Group A so i was the first few fighters. I can't really remember my first opponent, but he was those young guys who are not so good, and just try to hit only. Since it was the first match of the day, was still kinda rusty and there were moments when we clashed, and it did affected my left leg. But i guess there weren't much prob winning.
My next fight was with a indian guy, quite tricky 1, since he's as tall as me and having watched him during the first round, i already know wat to expect. He had those long kicks , similar to mine only slower. But the thing that surprises me is that the referee gave point to him , even tho i felt that he's kick hit my elbow instead of my back. It did shocked me cuz there were moments when i was leading with one point and he got he's kick and all of the sudden he was the one leading with one point. There were two times i was fouled, cuz he punched my face. Unfortunately, it seems there were no points awarded for me. Nevertheless when i was trailing i did wat i have to do to put myself back into the game. I did fear the worst tho, fear of being knocked out so early in the tournament. Luckily i managed to go thru. I do have some phobia fighting indians. Haha i guess fear is not a factor anymore....lolz
My 3rd fight was a walk-over really. I wish i could had fought like that through-out the tournament. I had two sanbons~!! I think there weren't anyone with sanbons in the tournament at all. That i'm sure... was an eye opener for all the fighters in my category. I was relatively unknown to them. I guess after that i did send shivers to them. Definition of sanbons- kick to the head with good
control. The kick only touches the head, won't cause any injuries at all. That's harder to be done rather than just wacking the head. i did two sanbons so i had 3 points for each. I lost count with the match, i think i won like 9-0 or sumthing like dat. I was cruising, so i just try to calm down and conserve my enery.
Quater-finalsMy opponent for quarter-finals was a familiar guy. I had fought with him once during a tournament in Johor and i've beaten him before. I have trained with him before as well in seremban. So, i was quite confident i can beat him again. The match started off with me scoring from my ever reliable kick. I was just trying to control the match , when i was caught off-guard when he drew level. But i did wat i had to do and cari makan from my kicks again as usual. It was really funny when people outside of the ring , probably he's team manager was kept shouting to him , to watch out for my kicks, but it's really unstoppable , i can tell u that especially if i change my stance.. north paw..lolz..Anyway i made it to the semifinals with bronze in my hand at the very least, so it's time for the next round.
Semi FinalsMy opponent for this round is a relatively unknown fellow. Before the match, we sat opposite directions and we did had some eye contacts, not those which eye contact which u use when u see lenglui, it's more to the 1 that says i'm gonna destroy u.... lolz..just kidding. I didn't watch him in the early rounds, so i haf no idea how good is he or whether he's more into punching or kicking. Nevertheless i started off cautiously, didnt take much risk. All i can remember is i cari makan from my ever reliable kick. These people know that i'm gonna kick but there's ntg that they can do, it'll just hit u. I did score from punch as well i think. Can't really remember well but i think i won the match 3-0, sumthing like dat.
FinalsMy opponent for the finals, seen him before, met him before of course, he's one of the trainer in Seremban. He was the only one who managed to counter my kicks, partly cuz he have a good and solid punch. I was quite frusfrated during the match, cuz he was just waiting for me. I took the risk to kick and once you kick , you're alwiz vulnerable and i got countered by he's punch. There was ntg much that i can do, and it was really frusfrating. I fought with a guy who is much more experienced then me. It was a sad ending.... had to settle for silver.......
That was the individiul event, next was the team kumite. Our team, MMU A consist of Shyuan, Maza, Jessica, CD and me. I think definately the favourites for the team event. We were strong in every department. We did not have problem cruising in to the finals, and i didn't need to fight as well since we already won 3-0 during the first 2 rounds. Being the 5th fighter it would b irrelevant for me to fight. During the finals for the event, the atmosphere was great, just the way i wanted, with mmu supporting each of our fighters. The first fighter Shyuan, did not have any problem winning their first match. So is Jessica who collected our 2nd point. We only need one more point to win but our 3rd fighter lost. So at this point is 2-1. Our fourth fighter was Maza, having lost to her opponent during the individual event, i had a feeling that she might lose again, and from that moment i had a feeling that it's gonna be my day. It was 2-2 and i needed to win. My opponent was the quy that lost to me in the quarter finals. The match started off cautiously, i was more to finding an opening. It was definately the best atmosphere of the day with MMU guys chanting my name. Damn, it makes me really hyped up for it. The one that really got me fired up during the fight was my buddy Eng yoong shouting, " EJ i trust your kick". Right after that i delivered one sweet kick and scored and it was 2-0 at that point. I knew my opponent was desperate for points so i was just on the defensive side, just moving around and making sure i've cover my areas. As soon as the referee stopped the match, we were in celebration mood.. everyone was congratulating me and i was congratulating my teamates as well. It was a great feeling man, definately one of the best i had in MMU. I love team spirits.. So at least i had my gold for the day and it did cheer me up a bit, after just managing a silver for the individual event. After that we had a tea break and i told my fren that i heard he's shout, " EJ i trust your kick" and we laughed bout it. Nevertheless it did inspired me. Since last week i've been getting praises bout my kicks, and i had no doubt that i had one of the best kicks in the tournament if not the best. I guess my hard work did pay off, all the ankle weights to class...lolz I'm actually surprised that i didnt score as many points with my punch as i should cuz i think my punch are quite ok. That is something that i have to look into.
The closing ceremony wraps up the day with me giving a speech and my master as well. Then we had the prize giving ceremony and after that it was just bout cleaning up everything. There were good news from the stalls as well, when our sales were brilliant, managed to sold off all the t-shirts including the display t-shirt as well, lol. There were a lot of left-overs for dunkin donuts as well and we ate for free including some can drinks. It was fun when we had a short get-together with all the mmu guys. It's sort of like a team bonding session. It's good~
Towards the nite, i was dwelling on my pain. Feeling it already , both my legs are sort of kong adi... I'm not sure if i can make it for the salsa class, but i'll try my best for sure.
